Hyoscine-N-butylbromide
Indications/Uses
GI spasm & hypermotility, biliary dyskinesia & urinary tract spasm, delayed relaxation of lower uterine segment & dysmenorrhoea.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1-2 tab tds-qds. Childn 6-12 yr 1 tab tds.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Myasthenia gravis; glaucoma, achalasia, prostatic hypertrophy, bladder neck obstruction.
Special Precautions
Idiosyncratic reactions. Pyloric or urinary bladder neck obstruction. Metabolic function impairment. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Hepatic or renal impairment. 1st trimester of pregnancy & lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Mouth dryness w/ difficulty in swallowing, thirst, pupil dilatation w/ loss of accommodation & photophobia, increased IOP, skin flushing & dryness, transient bradycardia followed by tachycardia w/ palpitations & arrhythmias, inability to urinate, reduction in GI tract tone & motility leading to constipation.
Drug Interactions
Potentiated anticholinergic effect w/ TCAs, antihistamines, quinidine, amantadine, disopyramide. Enhanced tachycardic effects of β-adrenergic agents. Reduced GI effects w/ dopamine antagonist eg, metoclopramide.
